What your dog says about you.

I had two beagles, Blue and Yellow (both were half-breeds and Blue was the best rabbit dog I've ever owned). Bush has Barney the Scottish Terrier, his dad had Millie the Springer Spaniel. Clinton had Buddy the Lab, Ford had Liberty the Golden Retriever, LBJ had Him and Her, beagles he used to lift off the ground by the ears. JFK had a pet shop full of pets, while Carter had Grits a mongrel of some sort. And Ike had Heidi the Weimaraner.

Ben Stein has two Short Haired German Pointers, named Plato and Brigitte. Which proves he's an intellectual chauvinist.

I suspect if Obama has a dog it's name is Enigma the French Poodle.

Hetty,

Hillary had Socks shipped off to protect the cat's "honor". IMO, a wise decision. Bill has always had a problem controlling himself. :)

LOL There's a dirty joke there somewhere, best left alone.

Anyone a fan of the vintage Britcom, ARE YOU BEING SERVED?, which often remarked about Mrs. Slocombe's beloved puddytat, Tiddles, except they didn't use the term "puddytat?"

;)

We have an Irish Setter, Pizza, and an English Springer Spaniel, Fionnula. Both love chasing the seagulls on the beach and are known by name by the dog catcher in town. The kids would take them on the beach for a run, but the dogs were out of sight in no time and we would have to pile in the car and drive to the other end of the island to get them. They are to old to do that trick now, but still love the beach and the water.

Hey, Lulu Lombard, Happy Maw's Day to ya and a special "woof" to Pizza and Fionnula (love the names).

Must confess, I had a lovely apricot miniature poodle in my younger days, name of "Noelle."  Smart, lively dog, but delicately bred, perhaps overbred?  Don't think I'd take on one again.  More drama than a day in the Poli Forum when meds have been overlooked and not enough Happy Coffee consumed.  ;)

Currently I have two terrible twin tomcats sneaking up on age 14, foolish and energetic as kittens.  I love dogs but nowadays tend to focus my attention on 2-legged hounds instead.

;)

Thanks Hetty, everyday is Mother's Day.

I took the two woofers down the beach with their Frisbees after I posted.  They have been a ton of fun to have around, they were so naughty I had to enroll them in doggy military academy. Fionnula had two litters before she was fixed, I was cross-eyed during those times, and the kids loved every minute of it.

Yep, Mother's Day is everyday.

I'm having a nostalgic moment.....

Lived close enough to my elementary school to be able to walk every day. There was a collie named Bosco who lived next door to me. Every day after school he would lay on the concrete steps in front of his house and wait for me to turn the corner to my house. That very minute he saw me he would jump up and gallop down the street to greet me. I would walk him back to his house, spend time with him and leave him laying on his steps again. I always wondered how the dog would just stay there and not stray off.

BTW, his owner Barry was HOT!

You know, I haven't seen a Collie in years, if I have I didn't notice it. Long time since Lassie was on the air.

Why are "hunting dogs" named Blue?

Collies have been down at conformation dog shows as well.

It's sad how breeders have all but destroyed the breed. The nose on a collie looks as though it went through a pencil sharpener. That in turn helped cause an eye problem in collies as they are very suceptable to cataracts and blindness.

Same goes for the colors of collies.I seldom see a standard collie that is mahogany anymore,or even a tri color. Now they are mottled with every imaginable color there is.

Tears ago breeders did a good job by breeding to set standards of various breeds.Today though, they just screw the standards up.

He was half beagle, half blue-tick, thus blue in color.

I believe you mentioned you judged dogs, or is my memory faulty.

ET,

Thanks for the info on Blue

Here's an interesting description on the breed

You don't need it - but there may be others like me

Till I was enlightened, I wouldn't have known.

I glad I asked.
