Checking in with Gensler

As I've said many times (for those that remember, or even care) I would periodically check in and report on how I'm doing with PRGSX

Call me crazy, but I use it as a core holding. I pair it with PRWCX and together they represent my 2 largest holdings. (OAKBX and FAIRX follow close behind)

Anyway, I thought I would do a quick compare of PRGSX with some other highly touted global funds. Since Gensler took over in April of 2005 I'll use YTD/1Yr/3Yr results.

CWGIX YTD -2.29  1 yr. +6.01   3 Yr. +17.96

VHGEX YTD -3.75  1 yr. -2.16   3 Yr.  +15.33

OAKGX YTD -2.12  1 yr. -4.26   3 yr. +13.83

PGVFX YTD -1.49  1 Yr. -11.63  3 yr. +10.11

PRGSX YTD -.60   1 Yr. +10.29  3 yr. +23.76

Granted, it's a snapshot, but so far Mr. Gensler is distinguishing himself quite nicely against some pretty stiff competition in a tough market. I'll be the first one to admit it if the fund blows up. Same goes for TRAMX.

Would love to hear if anyone else uses this fund as a core holding.

I also combine PRGSX with PRWCX, and think of both as a balanced global fund.  I wrote to this board last year asking if combining them would be a good idea, and there were several positive responses.  So I added PRGSX to my existing PRWCX position.  Very glad I did so.  Even though the markets were very tough since that time PRGSX held up surprisingly well.  Thanks everyone.

The M* analyst apparently really loves this fund.  Under "Risks", she lists "None" which I have never seen before.  Since that is the case, I think I will up my percentage from 11% to 100% :)

I was just checking my records and see I bought PRGSX in November 2005, just a few months after Mr. Gensler took over as manager and started earning its five stars. Most of my exposure to telecom stocks comes through PRGSX; Gensler has shown he knows how to pick 'em. I hope he's right about Alcatel-Lucent, too.
