It seems that several oil companies other than ExxonMobil have invested in alternative sources of energy. British Petrolium, for one, and Royal Dutch Shell. It seems these companies, though they lack the economic moat of E.M., are actually ahead of the game.

I'm willing to bet all Chevron will do is use this as a vehcicle to purchase technology from start ups and hence control the technology and all it has to offer.
