My taxpayer dollars are at risk, as is yours.

Our public servants have an obligation to taxpayers to make certain that GM management executes and take sufficient actions to "right the ship" and repay the tax dollars. They have a long history of NOT doing that. So they apparently need someone riding herd on them to "get 'er done".

A "hands off" approach, now that we have committed taxpayer dollars would be absurd. With taxpayer dollars at risk, the automakers need "tough love", not stoic detachment.

I take the "no interest" comment to mean "long term"... they want to get the ship righted, get the taxpayer's money back, and get out of this filthy business. But GM management has to start executing. And they have to be accountable to the taxpayers.

I wish the Govt would get a lot tougher (like this) with the banks, who have received a great deal more taxpayer money.

Meanwhile, auto sales for the industry as a whole were down 37% in March (vs. 2008).

history will not be kind to these politicians. this is brutal at best, i know i beat my self up when i lose money in my account - imagine what these guys are going through.

Cuomo would sell his kids to be governor then president. Our congressional "leaders" will do ANYTHING for 5 more minutes on TV and a few votes.

I sincerely hope the financial services CEOs meeting with Obama tomorrow (at his request) inform him their boards won't permit them to participate in new "toxic asset" and other programs because there is no guarantee our government won't break contracts at will or pass constitutionally prohibited ex post facto laws.

While it may be a positive sign, I would not order the keg yet.

Wow, a jump of 22%, from the lowest levels in history not all that impressive to me. A good portion is in Apartments which is I assume to house all the po folk who are getting evicted. The amount that is new residential is probably just more idiots that cant afford it, but didnt get the memo yet. I guess as long as the contractors get paid, atleast it provides some jobs.

Maybe its market manipulation putting in permits that will never break ground :o)

Riddle: What is 22% of nothing.

I wont pretend to know what this all means. One thing I do know is this......."Statistics dont lie, but statiticians (sp?) sure do"

I mean really, I just cant get excited about a 10% "surge" in say Bank of America when they are trading like a penny stock, unless I was trading it for a quick profit.

Just some healthy, helpful, snide, pessimistic comments.

I also look forward to understanding what this really means.
