We learned from this forum that parents can help to fund a ROTH as long as he earns that much money. He's put in 15% of everything he's earned (but needs the rest for college), and I've put in the rest. He hates to see it go down so he has more in bonds than some folks said there should be for his age, but he took the quiz on the Vanguard website and so the current allocation is pretty close to what he was comfortable with. Most of the recent contributions are to the 2050 fund, so gradually moving to higher stock proportion.

Re:Q&A for PamelaS's Strategic Trial portfolio

Do you have a quantitative way of determining how much to allocate to BEARX?

Re:Q&A for PamelaS's Strategic Trial portfolio

Pamela: We have similar investment interests. I ask that you visit y blog "Advise Bill" Do you have any experience in using Morningstars" "Consider Buying Price" as a tool for when to buy a stock? Bill

Re:Re:Q&A for PamelaS's Strategic Trial portfolio

Thanks for the inquiry- No- nothing quantitative- I conceived of this approach at a time, when, my general impression was that the market was over valued and reflected significant risk that was ultimately going to lead to the current bear market. My actual investment moves have been in the same direction, but more modest that this portfolio. It's an approach that allows me to test a hypothesis a little more extremely than I might with real assets. I would no longer be investing in BEARX, will be gradually diversifying into other asset classes now that valuations have presented some opportunities.

Re:Re:Q&A for PamelaS's Strategic Trial portfolio

I consider Morningstar's buying price recommendation as a helpful piece of information which must be weighed amongst the total information (SEC filings, earnings history, cash flow, debt/equity, strategy, market competition) about a company prior to stock purchase.
