Limoman's Investing History & YTD.

Well, after Being in the Corporate Limo Business out of Chicago since 1979 and chauffeuring all those "Business People" around and having them "In the Back Seat" for an ave. of an Hour to Pick their brains? " We Amatures Haven't Got a Chance Investing On Our Own." The Deck is stacked against us.. Not Therorectically, but Emontionally..Human Nature gets in the way and you need Outside people to make those Decisions Rationally and not Emotionally..and these Guys have Decades of working for Pro's and being Pro's themselves and Know what you up against by reading this> 11 reasons passive investors let Wall Street steal their money - MarketWatch and get this book> Amazon.com: The Brainwashing of the American Investor: The book that Wall Street does not want you to read!: Steven R.

Index Funds? Sure, butt that's about all most of us Had to invest in , until the 90's.. That's why Guys like J.Boggle and Vanguard & Fido dominated the Business! They had very little "Open to the Public" Competition.. thus You either Had the Big Bucks to Hire a Investment Firm or for us Poor People? Bought Index Funds...

Then In 98'/99' I finally gave up and succumbed to what my Customers always told me to do.. and I moved 80% of my Retirement $ into Balanced & Bond Funds to get about a 50/50 mix..

First it was AMBF's ( Active Managed Bal. Funds ) like DODBX, FPACX,*LCORX, OAKBX,PRPFX,PRWCX and they "Saved My Ass", as well as My $. going thru the Bear market of 00 thru early 03' ! ( *LCORX is now Closed and Have reduced 50% $ in PRWCX since end of 07' and sold out of DODBX in 05' and Added WMMRX with that $ ) & have VFITX and VFISX to get about a 50/50 mix. for 08'. But, will move out of Treasuries when a Bull Market Rtns.. Keeping mind? Other than Bal. Index Funds like VWELX/VWINX? Most other AMBF's are not Buy & Hold Forever.. Be prepared to have to Replace them ave of every 8-10 yrs..

The Other 10%? Kept that in what I call My All Equity- Gambling Port of : BRUFX,CGMFX,CGMRX,FAIRX,FLVCX..and a few other Equity Funds . Just for Fun! End of 08'? 15% apy for past 9 yrs running now..!

> Note: for 08' I added a Test of Allocating about 10% of Both my Retirement And My Equity Ports in Short Funds..UXPIX & URPIX. ( you can also short ETF's and Try GRZZX as well ) but this is a tricky Play.. so be carefull..and not for a LT Play either..It's Like Stock buyers use Options for Insurace, protecting some of their $ on the Downside..and I will sell them at or near at what I think is the Bottom of the S&P/Int'l market and Move that $ into BULL Funds..UAPIX and plan to Hold that Fund for 1-2 yrs..or until I think it's peaked and sell off in 25% increments.

And Since Interviewing over 15 different 'Advisor Firms"? I have stayed with my Current Ports. , since None could match, let alone Beat it for the previous 8 yrs. and Many " Hate Balanced Funds" and I think that's a good Thing...LOL

Yes, I pay the ave of 1% in fees for those Bal. Funds vs .05% for a Index, but I figure "you get what you pay for" and Give them the Benefit of the doubt , until they prove otherwise.. and so far? so Good.. Retirment Port is about + 9.1% apy past 9 yrs running now.. but, In 08' I moved most of my Bonds into My Treasury funds that saved that port and am moving back to my usual Bond Funds gradually and a few for Short Term plays for 09' ....Under advice from some Pro's I have access too. ( yeah, "I've Got people" LOL )

But, since They've more than beaten my former ave 70/30 & now 50/50 Bal. Port of indexe Funds over the yrs ( I still own them with about 10% of my Retirement $ in them) by over + 4% apy.

So far? Using 20/20 hindsight? I Recommend a New Inwestor take at least 75% of one's $ into those AMBF's and only "Try your luck" with the other 25%, until you prove to yourself that you not only have beaten them by at least +3% apy Or just go 90% in a couple of them and add another 20% to your savings/investment plans and let them do the job ! and go play with the other 10% or use that to buy on the dips into your AMBF's for fun.

and as M* says> " Be Skeptical of any Posters in their Boards".. Most are just guessing like everyone else..DYOR.. (Do Your Own Researching) and Don't trust Anyone with Investing your $.. And thanks to the PC and Internet? The Old Ways of the Old Pro's don't work as well anymore.. I think Those days are gone.. With too many More Amatures and Crooks Manipulating the Markets on any given day, Mo./Yr.. You best Have Other Pro's/Crooks Do it for you from now on.. Otherwise? I don't Think you have a Chance ! You might, but I doubt it over the Long Run...As for Indexing? Sure, but if your "ReAllocating" Different % in the different Indexes every Yr? Your Just guessing like the rest of them..Thus why I advocate Bal. Funds and just let them Decide and do the Job for you. It takes the X factor out of the equation... YOU...that for most of us, we are our own worse enemy investing our own Money.. They ain't the Best, but they surely ain't the worse..

Researching? Sure...I compare my choices to Indexs and Bal. Index Ports of VWELX, VWINX and other Ports by Pro's, like Fund Advice/PaulMerriman @ FundAdvice.com - Home , PAUL B. FARRELL's @ Lazy Portfolio's , Scott Burns @ AssetBuilder Inc. - Retirement Investment Advisor , Annex Wealth Management along with using Lipper Funds Research | SmartMoney.com & Bal. Fund Compare (Fund Compare) | SmartMoney.com ,& Bob Brinker's Land of Critical Mass :plus a Dozen other Pro's & Investment Firms too and it's STILL a Guessing game.! Thus I accepted my Limitations and put *90% of my $ into BF's (Balanced Funds ) of FPACX,OAKBX,PRPFX & WMRIX and just let them decide for me & Since Retiring? I added some Bond Funds to get about a 40/60 mix. Maybe you will do better, butt I doubt it.. Why?
