Presuming most of us come to M* to learn about how to manage and hopefully increase our financial assets, we all have an interest in money; we all have different philosophies about its usefulness and the importance it plays in our lives.

However, with all the technological advances and innovations in the world today, and with all there will be to come, here's a topic for consideration and discussion:

Is there ANYTHING left nowadays that money can't buy?

 
Health?  While much of your health can be attributed to genetics and good luck, having more resources means you probably have a better selection of health care options. You could pay for an experimental treatment or consultation with a pricey specialist out of pocket if need be.  The household budget has no problem making room for the best produce available.  You're free to experiment with alternative therapies and treatments.

Wealth?  Of course many people start with nothing and build fortunes.  It's easier, though, if you begin with something.  For many, saving that first couple of thousand dollars is almost an impossible task.

Love?   Companionship? You cannot purchase your soul mate but you can find a reasonable facsimile thereof i.e. not Miss Right but Miss Right now. 

Fame?  Although the public decides if a star is born, with plenty of money you can make certain your talents, or lack thereof, get noticed more quickly.

Career?  Any one who's ever had the joy of working with the boss' idjit children grasps this concept.   

Adventure?  The whole world is there for you to see, any place, any time, no worrying about your vacation schedule and how this will fit into your financial plan.  On a smaller scale, want to see every play, movie, concert out there?  Off you go. 

In general, HAPPINESS?  Maybe it can't buy it but properly applied it can stave off a lot of unhappiness.  (think I heard that line in PSYCHO...). 

These are broad categories naturally I'm painting my strokes with a very broad brush simply to get discussion going.

Nevertheless I'm very interested in hearing what the CyberCafe patrons think of this concept.

I do believe there are certain instances in which your money is completely absolutely no good, period.  Can't be bought at any price.  Rather than specify and elaborate just yet, I'll wait to see if there's any interest in this thread first LOL.

things that money cant buy:

 1) Living forever. You can prolong ur life with different aids but the Grim reaper will take you . I am not talking about philosophical view of "living forever in people's hearts and minds or whatever".

 2) Good Health: People might counter argue that if you have money , you can hire a chef, a trainer, a physiotherapist etc etc. But you still have to do hard work. No amount of work by chef or trainer will do you any good if you yourself are lazy and dont want to actually do it.

however here is my question for this thread along with Queenies.

Assumption: You make 50000 a year and you are 30 years old. You rent a place, live decently, drive a 20000$ car. you get the picture. You would like to have more but within that income you do fine

How much would the Devil would have to pay you (no annual installments but in a lump sum amount)

1) for you to agree that you die exactly 10 year from now.

2) How much the amount becomes if you are 40 - 50 years old.

3) How much if you are  60?

 4) How much if you are 30-50 but you die exactly 5 years from now ?

5) How much if you are 30-50 but you die exactly 1 years from now ?

I know a lot of you might think this is a stupid survey and some might rush to answer

"no amount of money is enough...blah blah". Think carefully and answer. :)

 
Think of all the things you could do with that money, that you cant making 50000 a year. Will you count your life in years or the amount of fun you could have.

BTW, Sorry Queenie for the thread hijack. I just thought this was contextual to your original post and thought it was an interesting topic to float out there.

btw, my answers.

let the bidding begin :). btw, these numbers are very optimistic naturally, meaning if i am quoted these values, without blinking i say "my a/c number is....wire it !!". I might agree to lower sum but just might need some evaluation :)

What can be bought?  And what can't be under any circumstances?

You add an interesting twist:  how much is YOUR longevity worth to you?
 

And I don't give a fig if people do get off topic in the Cafe, especially after a little Bailey's or Kahlua in their coffee.
