Hi Diehards: Last year our contest winner was Daniel (username: dalevitt) who correctly forecast that the S&P Index would end the year at 1112 (less than 8% of our contestants guessed how high the market would go). Ralph Arvesen's Temporary Webpage shows everyone's final position.
We have these twelve Wall Street "expert" forecasts for the S&P 500 Index on December 31, 2004:
1300 Edward Yardeni, Prudential 1250 Abby Joseph Cohen, Goldman Sachs 1200 Brian Belski, Piper Jaffray 1180 Stuart Freeman, A.G.Edwards 1160 Thomas McManus, Banc of America 1150 Chip Dickson, Lehman Brothers 1150 Gary Gordon, UBS 1150 Hugh Johnson, First Albany 1125 Steve Galbraith, Morgan Stanley 1120 Abhijit Chakrabortti, J.P.Morgan 1025 Tobias Levkovich, Smith Barney 0890 Richard Bernstein, Merrill Lynch
Here are the rules for this year's contest to guess the closing price of the S&P 500 Index on December 31, 2004: Only one guess (no percentages) In event of ties, the first guess wins. Contest closes midnight January 15. Winner must post their winning number on the Diehard Forum by January 10, 2004--otherwise the runner-up will be selected.
The prize is an autographed book by our mentor, Jack Bogle.
Best wishes. Taylor
