"ALPS Files for Barron's 400 ETF
On Feb. 8, ALPS submitted paperwork with the SEC seeking permission to create a passively managed ETF based on the equally weighted Barron's 400 Index, which selects constituents based on certain fundamental factors from the Dow Jones U.S. Total Stock Market Index.....Up to now, there has been no ETF based on the Barron's 400 Index, which follows a growth-at-a-reasonable-price strategy. Barron's officials long have touted the success of the index, which over a three-year period ending in March 2012 had easily outperformed the S&P 500 Index, the Nasdaq Composite Index, and the S&P MidCap 400 Index, which has a similar average company size as the Barron's 400 Index.....The Barron's 400 Index is relatively new; the magazine created the index in 2007. Marketgrader.com selects constituents for the index based on the strength of their fundamentals in growth, value, profitability, and cash flow, and then screens such possible index components for market capitalization and liquidity. The index rebalances twice a year.....ALPS did not detail a ticker symbol or expense ratio for the proposed ETF."
